Prayers for the First
Sunday of Advent
O come, O come Emmanuel, and
ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lonely exile here, until
the Son of God appear. CHORUS: Rejoice!
Rejoice! O Israel, to Thee shall come Emmanuel.
PRIEST: (Rom.
13:11) Brethren: It is now the hour for us to rise from sleep;
because now our salvation is nearer than when w came to believe.
ALL: In that day the
mountains shall drop down sweetness, and the hills shall flow
with milk and honey, alleluia.
PRIEST: Drop down
dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down the
just one.
ALL: Let the earth be
opened and bud forth a Savior. Be glad, O daughter of Sion,
and rejoice exceedingly, O daughter of Jerusalem, alleluia.
PRIEST: The voice
of one crying in the wilderness: prepare ye the way of the Lord.
ALL: Make straight His
paths. Behold the Lord shall come, and all His Saints with
Him: and there shall be a great light on that day, alleluia.
PRIEST: Remember
us, O Lord, in the favor of Thy people.
ALL: Visit us with Thy
salvation. All you that thirst, come to the waters: seek ye
the Lord while He may be found, alleluia.
PRIEST: The
Gentiles shall fear Thy name, O Lord.
ALL: And the kings of the
earth Thy glory. Behold, there shall be a great Prophet, and
He shall renew Jerusalem, alleluia.
PRIEST: Come, O
Lord, and delay not.
ALL: Loose the bonds of
grievous sins of Thy people.
PRIEST: Stir up
Thy might, O Lord, we beseech Thee, and come: that by Thy
protection we may deserve to be rescued from the threatening
dangers of our sins, and be saved by Thy deliverance: Who livest
and reignest world without end. Amen.
Advent Prayer
Hail and blessed be the
hour and the moment in which the Son of God was born of the
most pure and Blessed Virgin Mary, at midnight in Bethlehem,
in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, O my God, to
hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of
Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.

Thine own from Satan's tyranny; From depths of hell Thy people

15:4) Brethren: whatever things have been written have ben
written for our instruction, that through the patience and the
consolation afforded by the scriptures we may have hope.
ALL: Behold in the clouds
of heaven the lord will come with great power, alleluia.
PRIEST: Drop down
dew, ye heavens from above, and let the clouds rain down the
just one.
ALL: Let the earth be
opened and bud forth a savior. Sion, the city of our strength,
a Savior, a wall and a bulwark shall be set therein: open ye
the gates, for God is with us, alleuia.
PREIST: The voice
of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of the Lord.
ALL: Make straight His
paths. Behold the Lord shall appear: if He make any delay,
wait for Him, for He will come, and will not slack, alleuia.
PRIEST: Remember
us, O Lord, in the favor of Thy people.
ALL: Visit us with Thy
salvation. The mountains and the hills shall sing praise
before God, and all the trees of the forest shall clap their
hands: because the Lord, the Ruler, will come into His eternal
Kingdom, alleluia.

Lord, and delay not.

grievous sins of Thy People.
PRIEST: Stir up
our hearts, O Lord, to prepare the ways of Thy only-begotten
Son: that through His coming we may be worthy to serve Thee with
purified minds: Who liveth and reignest world without end. Amen.

Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say, rejoice. Let you
moderation be known to all men: for the Lord is near.
ALL: The Lord will come and
will not delay, and He will bring to light the hidden things of
darkness, and will manifest Himself to all nations, alleluia.
PRIEST: Drop down
dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down the Just
One.
ALL: Let the earth be opened
and bud forth a Savior. Rejoice, O Jerusalem, with great joy,
for Thy Savior will come to thee, alleluia.
PRIEST: The voice
of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare for the way of the Lord.

blessed hope and coming of the Lord.

pray. Incline Thine ear, O Lord, we beseech Thee, to our prayers
and enlighten the darkness of our minds by the grace of thy

Let a man so account us, as servants of Christ and stewards of
the mysteries of God. Now here it is required in stewards that
a man be found trustworthy.

PRIEST: Drop
down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down
the Just One.
ALL:
Let the earth be opened and bud forth a Savior. Behold there
will come the Desired of all nations: and the house of the
Lord shall be filled with glory, alleluia.
PRIEST: The
voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare for the way of
the Lord.
ALL:
Make straight His paths. The crooked shall become straight
and the rough ways plain: come, O Lord, and delay not,
alleluia.
PRIEST: Remember
us, O Lord, in the favor of Thy people.

Visit with us Thy salvation. The Lord will come, go ye forth
to meet Him, and say: Great is his dominion, and His kingdom
shall have no end: He is God, the Mighty, the Ruler, the
Prince of Peace, alleluia, alleluia.

And all the kings of the earth Thy glory. Thy almighty Word,
O Lord, shall come down from Thy royal throne, alleluia.

O Lord, and delay not.

Loose the bonds of the grievous sins of Thy people.
PRIEST: Stir
up, O Lord, we beseech Thee, Thy might, and come: and with
great power succor us, that by the hep of Thy grace, that
which our sins hinder may be hastened by Thy merciful
forgiveness. Who livest and reignest world without end . Amen.
